Aftercare for Lips

Keep in mind that during your healing process the lips will go through three phases; too dark, too light and just right. Relax and trust the process and keep in mind the color will shift several colors, do not let this alarm you because it’s absolutely normal. Your lips will shift colors as well as become extremely dry. It’s crucial to keep your lips hydrated. I will send you home with a cleanser and lip ointment to use for the first 5 days. After 5 days you can continue with your own lip balm/moisturizer. Your lips will become swollen , reddish and tender, this is completely normal. The swelling will subside over the next 48 hours.

  • While brushing your teeth do NOT open your mouth wide, and keep toothpaste off the lips.

  • Drink through a straw for the first 3 days.

  • Avoid sour and spicy foods

  • NO KISSING until your lips have peeled and healed! Kissing causes bacteria to be passed from one person to the other and we want to avoid any type of infection. No oral sexual activity during your healing process.

  • Do not apply conventional lipstick on the lips for at least 4 weeks.

  • Continue the use of Valtrex if necessary for cold sores.

  • No lip waxing or bleaching for 14 days.

  • Do not get lip fillers within 4 weeks prior and 4 weeks post your procedure.

Cold Sores with Lip Blushing

If you are susceptible to cold sores/fever blisters this procedure will likely cause a flare up and activate these conditions. To help prevent or minimize a flare up we ask you to speak to your healthcare provider and start antiviral medications 3 days prior and 5 days post treatment. Cosmetic treatments to the lip area do not cause cold sores. If you carry the virus, then it’s dormant in your body and can be activated by the trauma of this procedure.
